Week of 12/04/23:
Rms 211 and 213 (7th grade math): Students are beginning one-step algebra problems. We are focusing on inverse operations and solving for unknown variables.
Rms 212 and 214 (8th grade math): Students are completing their Missing Angles Worksheet. We will continue to solve for missing angles using our notes.
Rm 213 ELA: Students are finishing their essays this week. Because of this, we will not have a vocabulary list/test this week. We are continuing to read Refugee.
Other Announcements: Conferences are Thursday, December 7th, and Friday, December 8th. If you did not sign up for a day/time, I have emailed you with an assigned time. There is no school Friday.
Week of 10/23/23:
Rms 211 and 213 (7th grade) math: Students are learning how to plot and identify points on a graph. We will focus on accurately identifying x and y axes as well as quadrants.
Rms 212 and 214 (8th grade) math: Students are wrapping up their percent unit. They will calculate percentage increases and decreases as well as commissions.
Rm 213 ELA: Students have a cumulative vocab test on Friday, 10/27. This test has a word box and will cover lists 1-6. The only ELA homework this week is to study those 6 lists. We are continuing to read our novel Refugee. We will do a classroom simulation where students must make difficult choices many refugees face in their journeys. We will also read and analyze a poem relating to this experience. Students will review nouns, verbs, and adjectives.
Other announcements: Students had gym on Monday, 10/23. "A" day begins on Tuesday. Students will complete a fire drill Tuesday and attend a living rosary Wednesday afternoon.
Week of 10/10/23:
Rms 211 and 213 (7th grade) math: Students are learning about base numbers and exponents this week. They will learn how to evalute expressions with both positive and negative exponents and how to switch between factoring form and exponential form. Students will also learn shortcuts for multiplying and dividing exponents with the same base. Finally, students will review PEMDAS and order of operations.
Rms 212 and 214 (8th grade) math: Students will review converting between decimals, fractions, and percentages. Students will dive more deeply into calculating percentages based on word problems and will take a quiz covering these conversions and word problems.
Rm 213 ELA: We finally start our first novel this week! We will begin reading the book Refugee by Alan Gratz. Here is a book trailer if you want a sneak peek https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89sO3y75hF8
Students will also learn how to structure and write a strong, succinct thesis statement as we begin transitioning into 5-paragraph essays. We will have a quiz Friday on vocab list 5.

Week of 10/02/23:
Rms 211 and 213 math: Students are taking a quiz on Thursday covering adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative integers. We will spend this week preparing and reviewing for this.
Rms 212 and 214 math: Students are presenting their summer projects this week. We will continue to dive more deeply into calculating and estimating percentages and converting between percents, decimals, and fractions.
Rm 213 ELA: Students will finish working with similes and metaphors. Vocab test 4 is on Friday.
General announcements: Early 1pm dismissal on Friday, 10/06. No hot lunch that day. All school mass on Friday led by 7th grade. No school on Monday, 10/09, for the pastor's holiday.
Week of 09/25/23:
Rm 211 math: Students are presenting their summer projects this week. We will also complete pp. 5-8 in our teal math books on adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers.
Rm 213 math: Students will complete pp. 7-10 in their teal math books on operations between positive and negative numbers. They will take a quiz on Thursday covering adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative numbers.
Rms 212 and 214 math: Students will convert between percents, decimals, and fractions. Students will also present their summer projects for their first test grade.
Rm 213 ELA: Students are preparing for vocabulary test 3 this Friday. We are also focusing on identifying and creating similes and metaphors. Students will read a short story by Ray Bradbury and go on a figurative language scavenger hunt to find examples of similes and metaphors.
40 hours begins this week at church. Each class will go at some point this week to pray and reflect. There is an early dismissal on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Students and their families are encouraged to attend the closing mass for 40 hours Wednesday night at 7 p.m. for a candlelit recessional.
09/19/23:
Math and ELA summer projects were due last week Friday. Please ensure your student has submitted their summer work no later than this Wednesday, 09/20.
Room 213: Vocabulary test 2 is this Friday. Ensure your student knows the definitions and spellings of the words and can use them in a sentence.
Weekly class social-emotional lessons with the school counselor begin next week Tuesday 09/26. Here is a negative consent form if you would like to withdraw your student from these classwide sessions:
