Week of 01/07/25:
7th Math: Students are continuing to convert between percentages/decimals/fractions. They will take a test Friday on this content.
8th Math: Students are continuing to find missing angles using what they know about right angles, vertical angles, and straight angles. This week, they will also be able to solve for missing angles in a triangle. They will take a test Friday on this content.
7B ELA: Students are taking a break from Words to Go this week and will instead be given a list of commonly confused words to study. On Friday, they will read a passage comprised of those commonly confused words and correct any incorrectly used words from their list. Students will also be given a handout of basic parts of speech for review. We will continue to read When Life Gives You Mangos.Week of 12/16/24:
7th Math: Students are learning to convert between percents/decimals/fractions. They have a maintenance sheet for the week as usual due Friday.
8th Math: Students are learning basic geometry terms/definitions to prepare us to dive into geometry in the new year! They have a maintenance sheet as usual due Friday.
7B ELA: Students have a vocab list this week with a quiz on Friday over list 12. They are doing some fun activities this week including creating their own blackout poetry and will continue to read our novel When Life Gives You Mangos.
Other Announcements: Santa's workshop is on Wednesday and the sing off is Friday! On Wednesday, students have a full dress down day. The theme is Christmas, and they may wear a Christmas shirt or green or red.
Week of 12/09/24:
7B ELA: We are continuing to read When Life Gives You Mangos and will take a test on vocab list 11 on Thursday. All students will be given a word box on the test this week as it's a shorter week with less time to study. There will also be a quiz on capitalization rules and correcting sentences with incorrect capitalization.
7th Math: Students are reviewing proportions/ratios/rate this week and will take a test on Thursday covering these concepts.
8th Math: Students are reviewing simple and compound interest this week and will take a test on Thursday covering these concepts.
Other announcements: Parent/teacher conferences are this week on Thursday/Friday. A FACTS email was sent out last week offering time slots for parents/guardians to choose a 10 minute window during which to meet with their student's homeroom teacher. 7th/8th grade students are required to be present at the conference. If parents/guardians did not sign up for a time, their student's homeroom teacher will choose a time slot and notify them. Conferences are required in order to receive 1st trimester report cards. Due to conferences, there is no school for students Friday.
Week of 12/02/24:
7B ELA: Test on Friday covering vocab list 10. We are reviewing capitalization rules and discussing alliteration this week. We are also beginning our next novel When Life Gives You Mangos by Kereen Getten this week!
7th Math: We are beginning proportions this week and wrapping up our board games. The test on ratios/proportions will be at the beginning of the 2nd trimester.
8th Math: We are beginning compound interest this week and wrapping up our board games. The test on simple/compound interest will be at the beginning of the 2nd trimester.
Week of 11/18/24:
7B ELA: We finished reading Freak the Mighty last week and finished the movie in class this week. We have a vocab test on list 9 this Friday. Students also have book report slideshows due this Friday which they will be presenting in class. The rubric/guidelines are on Google Classroom.Week of 10/28/24:
7B ELA: Students are taking a break from vocab this week and instead focusing on reading more of Freak the Mighty and beginning to write their personal narratives.
7th Math: Students are continuing to add/subtract/reduce fractions using the G.C.F. and L.C.M. processes. They will begin reviewing how to multiply/divide fractions. As always, maintenance sheets are due at the end of the week.
8th Math: Students will have a test Wednesday on calculating percentages and converting between decimals, fractions, and percentages. As always, maintenance sheets are due at the end of the week.Week of 10/21/24:
7B ELA: This week we have a cumulative vocab test on the first 6 lists of the year. Students will be given a word box, and similar definitions will not be included (i.e. students will not be given both definitions for similar words such as eccentric and offbeat). We are continuing to read Freak the Mighty this week and exploring the theme of friendship. Students are also beginning their personal narratives this week.
7A/7B Math: Students are taking a test on G.C.F. and L.C.M. this week. They will need to find the G.C.F. and L.C.M. of two numbers as well be able to reduce fractions and find common denominators. They will then begin adding/subtracting fractions.
8A/8B Math: Students are learning how to calculate percentages of numbers and how to "translate" a percentage word problem into a math equation.Week of 10/14/24:
7B ELA: Students have a test on vocab list 6 this Friday. We are continuing to read Freak the Mighty and are reviewing hyperbole and how to write complete sentences. We are beginning a book project which will be presented November 22nd and 25th. Here are the guidelines:

Please choose and read a chapter book you would like to give a PowerPoint presentation about! When you've chosen a book, please show me so I can approve it. We will present on November 22nd and November 25th (right before Thanksgiving). Here are the guidelines for your presentations:
Fiction/Fantasy/Mystery/Etc. Book Guidelines:
Slide 1: title, author, publication date
Slide 2: brief plot outline of main events of the story (Use all 5 parts of a plot)
Slide 3: main character list complete with physical & personality descriptions
Slide 4: a description of the setting
Slide 5: your favorite quote or part of the book with an explanation of why it’s your favorite
Slide 6: create a book review paragraph complete with 1-5 star rating and why
Slide 7: an example of one of our S.H.A.M.P.O.O. literary elements from the book

Week of 10/07/24:
7B ELA: Vocab test 5 on Friday. We are continuing to read Freak the Mighty and answering comprehension questions. We will learn about hyperbole this week as well and identify/create examples of it.Week of 9/30/24:
7B ELA: We are starting our first novel, Freak the Mighty, this week. Students will always have comprehension questions due the day after we read the relevant chapters in class. These comprehension questions should be done in complete sentences and cite evidence from the text appropriately. If questions are not finished during class time, they are homework. Vocab test 4 is on Friday.7B/7A Math: We are wrapping up our review of decimal operations with multiplying and dividing decimals.
8A/8B Math: We are learning more about exponents this week, including operations with base numbers/exponents, negative exponents, and combining like terms. There is a test on Thursday all about exponents. Students may use any notes they took in class.Week of 09/23/24:
7B ELA--Vocab quiz 3 is on Friday. There is no word box, so students should know the spellings. We are writing our paragraphs based on Sandra Cisneros' story "Eleven." Directions are on Google Classroom. We are also reviewing similes/metaphors this week through a short story by Ray Bradbury.
7A and 7B Math--We are wrapping up operations with integers and moving into operations with decimals. We will be using both the teal and blue math books this week, so ensure you have purchased the blue book from the school supply list for class.
Week of 09/09/24:
7B: ELA--Vocab quiz on Friday, 09/13 on vocabulary list 1. You will have a word box this week. Be able to use the words in a sentence! Math--we are reviewing operations with positive and negative integers this week. Worksheet 1-3 in your teal math book will be due Monday, 09/16.
